Is it safe to use high temp Silicon gasket maker for the plenum an carbs to plenum I have the fuel leaking into the plenum to problem an cant get my bike an has anyone said if the fuel pump is ok like the intermittent spurts of fuel is ok when cranking

No there should never be fuel in the plenum. Either the plenum half seal or the carb to plenum seals or the floats are not working properly.

Do not use any gasket maker on the plenum or carbs. If you see gas in the plenum, your float valves are probably the issue but it could also be the plenum seals. You will need to remove the carbs to resolve either of these.

After you get the carbs fixed, hopefully your "return to idle" will be fixed but if not, please take a close look at the advance unit to make sure it is functioning correctly. I have seen the "slow to return to idle" many times and weak springs on the advance unit are usually part of this problem. Yes, carb issues are often part of the problem too. Take it off to clean it, lube it and inspect it. The advance springs should be snug, not too loose and not too tight. If the springs have any slack in them, the bike will have idling issues and timing will probably be inaccurate. If there is slack, you need to remove about ½ loop of the end of each spring. Turn the advance mechanism and release it to make sure the unit operates smoothly and fully returns. Look at the shaft and verify there is a pin sticking out of the lower part of the shaft. The notch in the advance unit goes over this pin. Reinstall everything and after you tighten the hex bolt and washer, verify the rotor will operate smoothly without any binding. For example, turn it to the fully advanced position and then release it to verify the springs are able to quickly return the rotor to the original position.

Yes, it is old but people are responding to it and most of these threads help other people too.

CF, yep, sometimes it’s good to review/revive these old threads to help people. I do wonder though if the oe poster ever got his bike fixed since he/she hasn’t posted back here for a few years,probably to busy out riding !

Sry for being a noob on these bikes its my first bike in general normally I work on vehicles but kinda have to do it cheaply dont have the extra money already have put alot of money into this bike I did put a dyna s ignition on the bike I didn't tell like dealing with points almost half tempted to make my own single carb conversion but I'd rather keep the 4 carbs I have taken them apart an cleaned them also let them soak in diesel fuel for like 3 weeks before cleaning them I did break a float post but since then I have replaced that whole carb body also is it ok to use a roll of gasket material cause I have a shit ton of that stuff lol any help would be greatly appreciated

Be careful with the thickness of the gasket material. Some of the covers, especially the front cover, have tight clearances and can have interferences if the gasket is the wrong thickness

As long as it is 0.8mm (1/32") gasket sheet there is no reason you can't use it for everything except the head gaskets.

Ill have to double check the roll that I got an double check to make sure the fuel is still leaking cause i know recently ive sprayed starter fluid into the plenum and if I leave the petcock on or reserve. An dont shut the fuel off it gets flooded somewhat takes it longer than normal to start so besides that what else could be the high rev with no return to 1k rpm any help would greatly be appreciated or advice which ever if y'all want to know more about the situation just ask
