86 gl1200 puked coolant

#1

Post by GENERALWON »

So today I learned my electric fan stopped working and in the 80 degree weather after idling for 15 minutes it started smoking and puked coolant out of the head gasket. I know how to fix the fan but I need to know what other than the head gasket needs to be replaced now. When I pull it apart what do I need to look at? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a picture of my wing. It's definitely a work in progress.

If it got shut off quickly you might get lucky. When mine happened I was in 6 lanes of parked traffic (I-95 in DC) and I had to push the bike off the road. Was forced to run it hot for a bit to find some water to refill it. A few months later I discovered some of my Carb seals had failed due to the overheat and then a couple years later I changed out the engine due to blow-by but I can not say for certain that was the cause.

I shut it off AS SOON as I looked down and saw coolant coming out.
