82 Vetter and 83 Honda differences

I've been searching around for a couple days and I can't quite find the answer I'm looking for and maybe since this is a naked forum, this the wrong place to check but anyway...

I purchased an 83 GL1100 Interstate for $200. It's a full bike and I knew it wasn't running and had sat many years. My intent was to build a blacked out bagger. Well the engine is toast, at least 2 pistons contacted the valves, one causing catastrophic damage. I'm not opposed to rebuilding the engine if the rest is salvageable but I've found a local seller with an 82 1100.

The 82 is a running bike, needs work but runs. It has a Vetter faring and trunk, no bags but otherwise a complete bike. My question is, will the Honda fairing and bags from the 83 fit on the 82. I'm not sure of the specific differences or why one has Vetter and the next has Honda.

Any help or advise is greatly appreciated.

Many of us own dressers here so no problem. Your 82 is probably a standard model with a vetter and yes, the hondaline fairing/bags with fit all 80-83 models.

Thanks, I haven't bought the 82 quite yet. I believe it is just a standard model as it doesn't have any Interstate or Aspencade insignia. There's also a heavy weight on the triple tree on the 83. Would I have to transfer that over to the 82 as well?

Yes you'll need the weight. Otherwise the front end gets too light on the highways.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm still working on getting the price down a little for the 82 I was looking at. The 83 that I have is in good condition all around but that engine is toast. The oil came out like a milkshake and the coolant system was almost dry and filled with crud, buildup, and deposits. I think the PO used a stop leak product several times and finally a valve sized and contacted that piston. It would be a major overhaul if the crank and cases are even salvageable.
