Electronic Ignition for GL1000

#1

Post by scootsx2 »

I came across this electronic ignition for GL1000 from Elektronik Sachse in Germany. Interesting but expensive.

stuff made in Germany generally is likely to catch fire re: Volkswagen. Use points and a Hondaman ignition if you want something that actually works.

Interesting but expensive. They all are. I bought a first edition C5 - that was expensive.
It could work fine.
With the Hondaman tho you'd have a backup if it din't. Points.
1978GL1000 naked - kinda sadly gone. no bike at the moment.

Best money you can spend on a GL is a C5.

2nd best is dual piston front brakes.

??????????
Remember that the price includes 19% VAT which anyone outside the EU won't have to pay.

I'm thinking to have a go with this system on my 79. Cheap enough for an experiment. May be ok, who knows. Have anyone used this already?

C5 is, since you need the whole system, way over the top for anything I need both in money and sophistication.

0if you want to ride the best,... go with the best. C5 is a complete system. components designed to work together. And they do it very well. Trouble free,... and fail safe

I've got one on my wife's 71 cb350 and I too tried it because I thought it was cheap enough for an experiment. Of course it's not a GL so I don't know if it can relate and it's only been on the bike for 1 full riding season with maybe 2,000+ miles on it so it's way too early for any kind of long term assessment but so far so good.

For all the riding I do, and especially for this bike which is likely to be sold once the Swan gets back, the cost of the C5 is unjustifiable.
