GL1100 Fuel pump / tank questions

#1

Post by 82_GL1100 »

After rebuilding the carbs, etc, I put about a gallon of fuel in my 82's tank, but am getting no fuel flow, even on reserve. Any idea how much dead fuel is in the bottom of the tank, after reserve runs dry? I can either add more fuel and see if that works, or pull the tank to see if there are any restrictions, but I thought I'd ask first.

I hooked up an auxiliary fuel bottle into the fuel pump, and got her fired up for the first time in about 5 years. The pump is spitting a small amount of fuel droplets out of the small (vent?) hole towards the rear of the pump. Is that something that will self-correct, or is there an known cause and solution?

If the pump is spitting fuel out the weep hole, it is defective. That's likely the reason it can't pull fuel from the tank.

Thanks.

The parts bike got a good workout today. It supplied a starter motor and a fuel pump. I still need to play with the carb sync, but the bike is up and running.

The diaphragm I mentioned buying in 2010 (post 68) was still working perfectly when I put my 'Wing to bed for the winter. And it is still available from the place I linked for the same price.
