1200 std stainless steel brake lines

#1

Post by adecood »

I have been thinking of changing over to S.S. break lines on my bike. So does any one know of a supplier who makes up kits for the 1200? And is there a difference between the Std vs Interstate vs Aspencade models as far as the break lines design. I would think that they are all the same, but I don't know if they are. Or do I need to come up with my own parts list to do this conversion?

I used to make my own lines. Buy the line in bulk, cut it, add the fittings. Now I just go to Summit Racing and order the lines and fittings I need to get what I want. Russell makes all the parts you need. Lines in various lengths. Fittings in straight, 30 degree and 45 degree bends. Also fittings in chrome or plain steel.

Goodridge makes modular lines. Buy each end according to type, then the hose, measured carefully--the ends add length. Just screws together. I like the all-black Shadow series. Get them many places online, even Amazon.

I have put AN-3 braided stainless PTFE lines with stainless AN-3 to 10mm speed (reusable) fittings on both my bikes. Doing this you can customize it to your needs and it will never deteriorate. It makes for a very clean install too. On my GL1000 I repalced the rear cross over hard line with braided stainless as well. Both bikes have a real firm feel now. The braided stainless PTFE gets rid of that "do I still have a tiny air bubble feel"

I replaced the entire line, master cylinder to calipoer, with braided stainless on the bike in my avatar. Just need to find the right fittings. That was 13 years ago. Back when I was still making my own lines. Don't ask me the part numbers. ;)

I took the flair insert out of the MC on the rear and used a banjo bolt with a 90 deg. banjo fitting. I could not find the fittings to connect up where the hard line connected to the MC so this was my work around. Turned out cleaner than the original set up.
