1983 GL1100 ASPENCADE

#1

Post by wmpotter399 »

Does anyone know of a different caliper that can be used on the right front of a 1983 Aspencade? On mine the bleeder screw broke off. And then, of course, the EZ out broke off when I was trying to get it out. I cannot find one ANYWHERE. Please tell me that there is another caliper that can be used.

A picture of the caliper would be helpful. I believe that they are the twin pot style used on many Honda bikes from the early 80’s. Any CB or CX650 series like the CB900/1000/1100 should fit the rotor and bracket on that bike.
Current Bikes:

1966 CL77 - Honda 305cc - Dual purpose - "Gentleman's Scrambler" was a period moniker.
1967 CL175K0 - Low production number with #802 engine serial- winter 2019/2020 full restoration.
1972 CB350F - Baby Four with low mileage - Cosmetic refresh to the next level 2021/2022.
1978 CB550K - Very original bike with only 7499 Km. from new - light cleanup and refresh done.
1983 CB1100F - Canadian model - DOHC Supersport in pristine low kilometre condition from new.
1984 GL1200 - Standard model in showroom condition - two owner bike from new.
1984 CX650E - Restored summer 2017 - a rare Eurosport model - excellent one owner bike.

They look the same, but the Aspencade has vented rotors so the caliper actually has a wider opening. Kind of a tough one to find...

Is 83 aspencade the same as the 83 interstate?

I have the two front from the interstate (if they fit). They will need a complete rebuild though if you are interested.
very reasonable - pm me
I sold the bike.
Parts from a 83 parts bike.
1978GL1000 naked - kinda sadly gone. no bike at the moment.

Part numbers of the calipers are slightly different as the GL1100 Interstate looks like it used the non vented style front rotor.
If you can't find one take the caliper to a machine shop and they should be able to extract it. If they can weld a bolt onto the extractor stub or another method that works for them they should be successful.
Heat is your friend when dealing with frozen steel bolts into aluminum castings that have lots of corrosion and rust.

The CBX1000 used a vented rotor on the last model year that is possibly comparable as an exchange caliper from the 1982 model. Do a cross reference search on the part numbers if you can find one.
