Ignition ID

#1

Post by elslimdiablo »

Hello all,
Foundthis ignition on a 79' GL1000 engine that was give to me for the cost of a bottle of Moscato. The only mark on it is a KV on the back. Looks something like a Charlies Place ignition but the pickups are pretty adjustible. Any ideas?
This engine also has a dipstick on the front of the engine and is plumbed into the drain plug. I'll get a picture of that later. Looks like this was in something other than a motorcycle frame, maybe a trike or something.

Found a picture of a Dyna 3, looks like it plugged into an ignition module. (was curious about the size of those bullet connectors!) Thanks Robin.

The dipstick connected to to the drain plug is pretty standard for aftermarket dipstick kits.

When I added the sidecar to my 'Wing I remembered (not very fondly) having to lay across the seat with my head hanging between the bike & sidecar to see the sight glass on my previous GoldWing sidecar outfit. I was lucky enough to find a NOS drag specialties dipstick kit for mine but more recently Cyborg has made small batches of dipstick kits that attach there too.

You have the first generation Dyna S ignition made by KV Products. In my prime many moons ago, I use to fill out the warranty cards for all the members in my Gwrra chapter (1979 up) that I installed them on and mailed it back. I opened up my mail box one day and found a new S, a gift from the designer/owner of KV Products Ken Rodgers.

As for the pin size, we were coming home from Wing Ding 79 in AZ when my friends 78 started missing etc, one of the slightly smaller Dyna 3 male ends was arching within the oem harness point end-one crimp to make it tight, problem solved :<)

Thanks for all the info. The dipstick is on the crusty side but might clean up. Not sure if I'll put it to use, might look interesting on the wall. As for Dyna III. That will probably hang right next to it. Do the control boxes ever surface?

I like the pictures. What is the fairing on the second bike from the left? I thought Vetter until I enlarged it. Looks more aerodynamic.
