GL1200 Clutch Slave Weep Hole?

Post #1 by Lucien Harpress » Thu Jul 18, 2019 9:47 pm

I just recently learned that the clutch on my GL1200 is leaking. Apart from touching up the paint, repairing the clutch slave cylinder looks pretty straightforward, and in fact I've already got the rebuild kit reordered. That being said, I did notice a small hold on the bottom of where the slave bolts up to the engine block, and I'm curious it this is normal (for drainage, or whatnot).

Normally I wouldn't mind, but A) the hole itself looks pretty roughly-cut., and B) I have put this bike into a ditch at least once. It's a long shot such a targeted area would be damaged by that, but it'd be nice to rule things out.

I can post up a picture of what I'm talking about if anyone has questions.

It's been a long time since I rebuilt mine on the 84, so honestly I don't recall. It makes sense though, if the slave starts to leak you want it to go somewhere to the outside rather than past the seal the push rod goes through and into the engine oil. Bearings don't like that mix.
