Gl 1000 shin banger engine guards ?

#1

Post by Pony Ruiz »

I had some of these on another 78 but can't remember if the bolt that attaches at the top back needed to be longer to accommodate about another 1/4' for the flanges on the guards.

Anybody? If so what did you use for a bolt? All thread?

thanks!

Mine has all thread. A deep acorn nut covers it nicely with no sharp edges.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

I thought maybe so - just checking. I'll have to pick some up along with the acorn nuts.
I don't like the fact that they kinda get in the way but they do a good job of protecting in the event of a tip over...an eventual tip over that is.
thanks.

I'd have to be pretty desperate to use threaded rod on a motorbike. It just don't feel right. Why not use a piece of steel rod and just thread the ends? I've had pretty good luck with cold galvanizing paint for protection against rust too.
