Found A Hole In One Of The Carbs ?

#1

Post by Dr. Frankenstein »

In the process of boiling and cleaning my 755A carbs, I found this in one of the throats - that jagged hole in the middle.
What bothers me is that none of the others have this, and it doesn't look like it's supposed to be there:

So I flipped it over and saw this, too - another jagged hole in the middle recess:

I blew some air through it, and it does come out the other hole. None of the other carbs have this hole here, and it sure doesn't look like it's supposed to be there...or is it? And if not, is there a fix for this? I was thinking a small dab of JB Weld, pressed in and smoothed out.

And here's what I found when I cleaned out my engine sump - pretty nasty. I put the screens in vinegar though and they cleaned up like new:

I believe that hole is for the vacuum signal to the air cutoff valve. One of your float bowls has a port there and it needs to mate with that carb to get a proper signal to air cutoff valve. It enriches the mix on deceleration to prevent backfires.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Yup, it is suppose to be there. What Momma Honda declares as a hole, no one shall doubt.

And that isn't your engine sump. The sump is the bottom part of the engine where the oil runs down to so the oil pump can pick it up and re-circulate it (that's why these are called "wet sump" engines).

The part in your pic is what Honda calls the "Breather Chamber".

I had the same problem in three of four carbrs. In my case it was after an ultrasonic cleaning.
Here you can take a look https://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=65027
I can only tell you that the bike works well.

I'm sorry I completely forgot to report and close this thread.
I finally mounted the carburetors and to this day they are working perfectly.
I've no idea how can I close it.

Your comment pretty well closes it. Just a report of problem solved and how lets others that search for "hole in carb" know this was resolved.
