anyone had any experience in unblocking a block reserve line??

#1

Post by Gc33 »

Hey Gents..Has anyone had any experience unblocking a blocked reserve line? Ive soaked most of the tank and main line is clear. Im currently trying to clear the reserve line. It seem mostly clear to the last bend or just before that crappy filter mesh bowl. Im probably going to get rid of that filter as its probably going to be of no use when I do the tank liner anyways.
ive used a piece of wire and some hydro-chloric acid down the tube but not really getting anywhere.
Hopefully someone else has had some experience with this

I've read that many have had success using a length of clutch or throttle cable chucked into a drill to auger out the line. Be careful about the direction of rotation as the cable can unwind.
As for the screen, you can blow compressed air through the line before the liner sets up to keep it open, or just remove it. It's pretty useless, IMhO.

I had heard a tacho/speedo cable but not clutch or brake cable- i kind like yourself in regards to the filter screen. I dont see it being of much use considering there is an inline filter.May be its there just to stop bossible large pieces? I fly back to work on miondeay so not much chance of getting one til next break...Ill give it a go then. Failing that I reckon I may have to get Fuel tap point taken out, cleaned then replace it..

The screan keeps big flakes stopped. I replaced one of mine with a "sock" filter over the end of the line after removing the screen. I'd try carb cleaner or acetone on the blockage if the tank has had old, set-up gas or tank liner in it.

I guess it depends on what is blocking the filter screen. If it is blocked by some type of a gas tank sealant, then you gonna have a serious clean up to do.

If it's blocked by old gas, partially fill the tank with vinegar for 24 hours. Flush with water.

Well, my .02$. My bike sat for 35 years. Undoubtedly with gas.. tank rusted and both lines plugged. Soaked the tank inside with toilet bowel cleaner( high concentration) . Ripped out the two screens. Got a stiff small gauge wire, used plenty of Pb blaster down the tubes, kept pushing away at the wire over few days, eventually got through. Then got an 1/8 wire cable about 10-12”. And hooked it to a cordless drill . Ran it counter clockwise in and out until I got it all the way through( again plenty of Pb blaster). Then started running it throughout the length of the fuel line clockwise ( the cable opens up this way and you get a nice rotorooter effect). I also added a cleanable fuel filter below petcock in addition to regular Honda in line fuel filter.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah... No there is no previous tank liner. Bike has sat for 15byears. I knocked out all the big stuff... Left it soaking over nite with hydrochloric acid/water mix so will see how I go today.. I've also put injector cleaner down the tube as well. Fingers crossed.

well that solves that...its like its got cement at the end of the line...on top of that the wire I was using broke off as I was pulling it back out bugger it... censored2 censored2 censored2 censored2
Ive cut the fuel tap block out with my dremel, and hoping that I can get the tags inside the tank that hold the lines in place to let go but such a difficult spot.
So if anyone has been down this road of cutting and shutting the GL tank please let me know, Id like to find out the best way.

the screens were actually not too bad. And the Tank internally is pretty good after I initially gave it a going over.Just the lines. Im thinking I may just gut the blocked bit off as it was close to the screen and just add a piece of pipe to it.. dunno...Ive got a week to contemplate it as Im back out to work for a week...I may get my wife to drop it to someone that i know who is a custom bike builder...hes got some awesome techniques.

One possible solution would be to cut the line(s) near the tap block, add new lines there, and just leave the old line(s) in place. There's really no reason the new lines would need to even be tacked into place. Hard lines wouldn't really be moving anywhere, and the old lines, especially if you seal the tank, aren't going to hurt anything just sitting there.

There's another good thought...

EXCELLENT. I've just been trying to figure out my best way to cut and shut it.
Your vinegar method... Was that straight vinegar or dilution?
