Gl1000 over bore

Post by redglbx »

Have any of you ever tried installing 1100 pistons in a 1000 motor ? I haven’t really looked to close at doing this so I have no idea if there’s a difference in the stroke so the piston pin would be located differently.

The reason I ask is that I have a 78 that was stored outside w/o the carbs or manifolds by the previous owner and had the ports full of water, my original idea was to put an 1100 or 1200 motor in it but if the 1100 pistons will work with an over bore that might be the easiest way To go.

I know it has been done, but been a while since I have heard of someone doing it.

I would argue putting a 1200 in is quite a bit easier, and probably cheaper.

Check out the big bore kit toward the bottom of the page in similar topics. Old Fogey says what you have to do to run the 1100 pistons.
