Flat Spot Jet Question

#1

Post by Dr. Frankenstein »

One of the things I have NOT yet done to my '75 GL000 is the oft-talked about air-jet fix for the carbs- I still need to see if the darn thing will Start yet, but doing some reading in here got me wondering - rather than fill up the original jets and re-drill, can you just use a #98 jet instead? Is there a jet you can buy that will do the same thing, or are they Unobtanium...? Or is it better to just do the solder-thing and save some money?

Yes ! Buy the jet ! PJ Motorsports is where I buy my jets from. The idle air jet in the external brass elbow, I usually use a #110 but anything from the #98 to the 110 should be good.

Personally I’m not a fan of soldering and redrilling jets or any jet drilling in general, just not a precise deal for metering fuel. But I’ll add that need & finances dictate a lot of things but I’m not a fan of drilling at all !

I would concentrate on getting it to run first,
then getting it to run the best it can in stock form,
then consider modifications if needed.

It may have been done. If you pull the jet, the one order the rubber hose from the plenum which looks like a fuel line, then see what it says; If it’s a Kehien 60, someone took them from a previous rebuild and likely drilled them out. If it shows solder in the jet, someone has done the fix. It won’t hurt to use a micro drill to check the size.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Take out number 4 it's the easiest to access. I just pulled all my elbows and did the solder mod , sitting the jet screwdriver slot down on pop rivet shaft , works good , but be careful after clean fluxing it , when adding a little solder it can bubble out and onto clean thread , I drilled two sizes under then to actual size .
