I present to you the Binford GL1000 snap ring tool

So like everyone here..I struggled to get the snap ring off the driveshaft. My problem was..the snap ring plier tips would slip out of the clip as soon as any tension came on the tips. Even my good pliers did the same thing.
So I whipped this bad boy up this morning using 2 allen wrenches.
Second attempt and got the snap ring off. dancr
The tool.

Image

Why it worked so well. It fills the holes in the clip and the edges on the allen wrench help grip the snap ring.

Image

At first I tried them using the entire wrench but it was to long and I was losing the torque so I cut them a bit longer then the tips that came with the pliers in hopes it would give me some eye ball room between the pliers and clip.
It worked so well I'm giving myself the rest of the day off.

Having injured myself with that type of snap ring pliers one time too many I now only use the ones that are solid pliers without removable tips.
I guess if you have to use the replaceable tip type this is an improvement if only because the flats on the allen keys give the set screws something better to bear against.

OK. The ones I am familiar with were round with one flat side that wasn't ground flat very well so the set screws didn't hold them well and they turned in the pliers.
I don't recall having a particularly hard time getting mine out with this type. As I recall, finding the ends of the snap ring in the grease was the hardest part...

I had to dig a bit to find them. lol
I have these channel lock pliers. Very well made and they are inside and outside snap ring pliers combined with a flip of that red tab.

I think those are the improved version of the ones I came to loathe so much.

lol..no. coffee is my "go to, must calm my nerves" beverage..
although I still need to get the snap ring off the splined sleeve on the drive shaft so a stiff shot of whiskey is still a possibility.

Interesting. I can see them on my phone but not the computer I was using. Looks like it's all good on your end.
