Small update: Installing a new MOSFET reg/rec and redoing the wiring/splices from the stator did the trick. The yellow wires are no longer getting hot and have the proper voltage going back to the battery for charging.
Inspected every connection—cleaned or replaced as needed—and now feel pretty good about the electrical system.
