Don, imho I’d be trying a set of those 78/79 springs !
My methodology is a bit different than most.

I don't just start throwing parts at an issue, that usually causes more headaches than it addresses.
Also.... I'm not so sure that there actually IS a problem.

FWIW: If I had to guess, I'd say that the 78/79 springs are stiffer than the earlier ones.
Due to there being a higher velocity of air being drawn thru the 1mm. smaller bore carbs.

Here’s the difference in mine with the cap inverted and pressing the spring. Both were in 764a carbs.

Someone here posted the differences years ago. Alwing17 maybe? Imagine them mixed within the same set.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
