I've made my decision and I am duplicating Thing 1. I've also received the parts needed to repair the rear brake on Thing1, as well as the new replacement parts to install on Thing2. Had to wait a minute for the Randakks carb rebuild kit to become available , but that showed up on their site yesterday morning and is now on its way. Whoever buys Thing2 is gonna get a stunner of a bike. Its in great shape and will be a real looker once completed. I've ordered new valve cover gaskets for both bikes as I'll be checking valve clearances and polishing the covers on the buffer.

A little refresher on where we were and where we're at....

The rear brake caliper is missing but will be back in place soon enough. Along with a replacement rotor, as this had a groove cut into it, and the balance of the rear brake system replaced or rebuilt. I'm very pleased so far.

On the money bob. Master was a mess inside and out. Caliper and master rebuilt and now in working order. Took a test ride today and it was a pleasure.

You aren't the first person with that problem :orange

We had one fellow a few years ago who's front brake would lock up if he parked it where the sun shone on one of the calipers.

That’s a great looking Goldwing. They only I don’t care for on it are the front turn signals.

I agree, but removing them leaves a giant scab on the forks. There’s no pretty way to cover the mounts for those old giant turn signals. But, they’re not terrible, and you can see them from the moon…..and if you lean way forward , you can use them as the back up handlebars….

Strangest thing…….took the bike for a 3 hour ride yesterday, locally, doing speeds below 50 mph, on back roads, and twisties. Newly rebuilt rear caliper and master worked swimmingly. During bleeding, I could not get the bubble to stop being drawn from the caliper bleeder, but the pedal was firm, and the brake worked fine. Not rock hard, but fully functional. Was so pleased I chose to address some of the last few action items that need to be addressed on the bike I.e; Changed out the oil/filter and final drive oil last night. Got the plate on it, and made sure everything was tight and working properly, tire pressure, etc.

Today, I took it out on the highway, and noticed the bike was fighting to get to 70mph. Got off the exit. Rear caliper again locked. new pads cooked. Steam escaping the set screw, again. Just like before the rebuild. I fortunately landed at a repair shop and went in to borrow a 14mm to back out the banjo bolt, and by the time I got back to the bike to loosen the bolt, the steam had stopped and the wheel was again free. I loosened the bolt anyway, and took her home on the front brake only. No issue with rear lockup all the way home. So the only piece of the puzzle that was neglected was the hose. And the bleed was likely done poorly.

So Ive started a new thread asking where to get replacement lines. Randakks is out of stock, and Dennis Kirk only sells kits. And the price difference between eBay sellers and Reputable dealers is 10-20x cost.

I’m hoping this is the last issue. The front brakes work normally, but they need a full bleed too. I’ll add that to the smack down list.

And of course, in time, I’ll swap in braided lines in front, but boy……..money money money….Ugh.

Getting back to the fenders, has anyone used the CB900C rear fenders on a GL1100? I know this build uses the front from the 900 and the rear from a CX500.

Thx.

I know, huh? I was so pleased to see that. Much thanks to the powers that be for choosing it.

This adventure is still on going as I’ve yet to install the steel brake lines into thing 1, but I anticipate a wonderful runner, ready to go this spring.
