GL1000 Vin Tag Removal

#1

Post by rdway60 »

confused22 confused22 I'm getting my 75 replacement frame ready for the powder coaters and I'm looking for the goto route to remove my vin tag. I've warmed/heated with hairdryer and worked an old plastic card behind it and have displaced the glue bond behind the tag. Seems the neck is double walled so no bit of rivet sticking thru I could push on. Guessing my next step is center punching and carefully drilling thru rivet? Think a very small left hand drill bit might help? What has worked for others on these beasts? Thanks

Masking tape and spray paint. The original frames were not powder coated.

I left mine on and the powder coating company removed it and returned it to me.

Thanks for the inputs. I ended up carefully running a file across the top of each rivet head and lightly center punching them. Small 5/32 (I think) drill bit and pulled them out with my fingernail. Off to the powder coaters.
