Re: Stripped screw hole
I had to special-order metric Helicoils, because nobody stocks them here in Murica's heartland. Even with 99% of the vehicles made being built with them somewhere.

Re: Stripped screw hole
I ordered a large set from the jungle website.
Was like 30$.
Be warned, im having issues getting it to work.
The hole in the cylinder head where the manifold elbow flange screw goes is kinda blown out at the top on mine and I had trouble getting the helicoil to seat properly.
So much so that when I went to install the bolt it was so tight that I decided to back it out and in the process it snapped..
So had to drill that out.
Now, the helicoil is in but the threads start a little too deep and I csnt torque the bolt in.
I'm going to buy a little longer m6 bolt and see if I can get it to seat properly.
I could get the bolt to work and torque without the flange in the way so I just need a little more length I think.
Otherwise, I may have to resort to something else.
Hopefully not.
Anyways, just take your time.
I was being super careful and still ended up with a headache.
Tomorrow will tell if I can resolve it.

Re: Stripped screw hole
You can insert a second helicoil atop the first and snip off the excess.

Re: Stripped screw hole
I guess I hadn't considered that.
May give it a shot.
As id mentioned the top of the hole is pretty flared out so it may not work.
We shall see

Re: Stripped screw hole
Did you use their tool to install it? I would pass on 2nd coil if it doesn't have good metal to seat in and just use the longer bolt. Most Helicoils are SS, so I would avoid SS bolts as they will gaul together (used to have that happen at work where we had to use all SS - the solution was Neolube, but hard to obtain). Ace hardware carries a great assortment of metric fasteners here.

Re: Stripped screw hole
I used the included tools to install.
Just ended up being to tight initially and I had issues.
I've got a coil in now at the bottom of the hole but I don't think one will seat properly at the top.
I'll be picking up some longer bolts this afternoon.
I'm pretty certain this will fix the issue.
Just need the bolt to touch the threads when I drop it in the hole with enough left to catch and torque.
Otherwise I may have to try a time-sert or drill the hole thing out to the next size up, which theres just enough room for, it seems anyway.

Re: Stripped screw hole
You might try using JB Weld in conjunction with the thread repair. I did this once with a Time-Sert and it worked great. Make sure you let it fully cure for a couple of days before using it.

Re: Stripped screw hole
If you use a longer screw, Make sure it can't reach the bottom of the hole.

Re: Stripped screw hole
6 turns of thread engagement is enough to work, more is a bonus.

Re: Stripped screw hole
Got the new bolt in last night.
Trimmed it a bit, and its torqued against the manifold flange as it should be to the proper setting.
Now back to our regularly scheduled assembly.
I hope.
