Rear Signal Stem Size?

#1

Post by Dr. Frankenstein »

Does anybody know what size the rear signal stems are for a '78 GL1000? It looks like a pretty big hole - 12 or 13 mm - but I also can't determine the pitch; is there a source for these stems anywhere? Is there another bike that uses the same size?

Those do not fit a 78 as the turn signals are mounted to the tail light rather than the grab rail and the size is different. Before ordering them I contacted saber cycle and was assured they were correct. They are not. Had to have special adapters machined to accept them. Sorry remember the correct size but it seems to me they were 14mm on my 78.

Yes, it's true - Jonesz is accurate; I did get some for my '75, and the front ones screwed right in, but I had to drill out and tap the rear mount that I had to take the 10mm light mount.

If anybody here has a lathe, that would make a nice little side-gig - making adapters for the early models.

I bought a set of these (no affiliation or knowledge of seller) https://www.motorcycleid.com/ks-technol ... -1217.html that were way too small for my 78 tail lamp setup, if the earlier ones take a smaller size they may fit.

I had a heck of a time finding some that were larger and correct, and the chrome was shot when I did find them so I'm technically still looking for some..

If you don't mind reproductions, check 4-into-1.

4n1 looks to have the short ones but not the long for the rear on a 78, and some of the smaller diameter thread size ones.
