1979 seat bolt locations with pics?

#1

Post by bwill166 »

I have a 79 GL1000 with no seat. I have a seat of unknown year. The bike itself doesn't appear to have a place in front for the seat to hook and the back doesn't line up with the shocks. Can anyone clarify for me please.

Not sure about the 79 but if it’s like the 80 the seat hooks into the back of the shelter. On The earlier ones there’s a bracket on the bottom of the seat a few inches back from the front that hooks under a cross bar that bolts to the frame. Both should have brackets that bolt to the rear struts behind the upper shock mounts.

yeh, there is a bracket that mounts to the frame in 2 places.. it looks kinda like a handle. The seat has 2 fingers that slide under this bracket.
