75 GL1000 cable grommet

#1

Post by rdway60 »

ImageThis might be a stupid question, but is there really such a thing? Giving my ntm 75 a good deep cleaning since I've got it completly disassembled due to a frame replacement. Working on cleaning some rubber parts on front end. What can i use to brighten up my fender cable grommet? I'm sure it wasn't snow white new, but sure I can do something. Long winded ?, but soap and water not doing it. Fingernail did leave a mark. Any tricks?

Originally black. You might try a soak in your favorite rubber restorer. Sun and years have done their damage.

Alternately, quite a few Honda bikes used that same part, so a nicer replacement might not be that hard to get a hold of.
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- It Runs (Poorly) and Doesn't Leak (Mostly)
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Broke the Chain And Ate the Motor
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

FWIW, Honda had those in both black and a pale gray and probably used the black and gray versions on different models.
As I've often said, 4 decades is a long time so it is not surprising to find parts from other models on a bike that old.

Here's a pic of the gray version

Hah, would have never guessed black or gray. But as I look closer at mine could see a gray possibility. Just so happens I did order a new Honda black on an order as I figured my original would fall apart on removal. Thanks folks and another ? about original hose clamp and wire guard color coming next!

I'll give that a try Shadowjack. Maybe I'll switch from off white to black occasionally. Mix it up lol.
