Gl1000 swingarm lubrication

#1

Post by Bloodhound »

Not much of my goldwing has been pulled apart over the 30 years of ownership in our family , looked at articles on swing arm , mostly to remove them and lube needle bearings . After looking at parts drawings and pics , I decided to mark the pivot bolt and lock nut , then measure from frame to end of pivot bolt (11.5 mm)
Put bike on center stand , removed one pivot bolt and put a large lump of wheel bearing grease on the end, the needle roller is capped so the grease gets hydraulic-ed into the bearing , reset measurement , double check the " right in and back out 1/8" . All good .

Something we should all do every 30 years or so. Probably one of the neglected areas. New swing arm needle bearings can be hard to find but are available.
