I like loud. Lol. I put some cheap Chinese motogp knock offs on mine. Caught them on sale for $16 each. Sounds like a Honda ought to. Certainly keeps the deer away.

There’s not not much difference really. Maybe a little louder and slightly throatier? But they look way better in my opinion

There is this option for loud

is that straight pipes because that didn't sound bad at all.

The Jardines are "OK", but I would switch to 1200 headers and HD mufflers if I could find a set of headers in decent shape and price.

We're all different, but to my ears the Jardine's sound a little harsh. Plus the limit rear shock length & options since the mounting bolts barely clear the exhaust.

My bike is working fine, so these are both options, not mandatory.

FWIW, I was one of the first on the forums with Harley mufflers (I actually had them on the bike for several years before I joined the old Classic Wings SIG MSN group). They are louder and more throaty than stock but not so loud that they rattle windows or keep me from hearing the stereo (although I do sometimes leave the stereo off so I can hear the "GoldWing music").
And my non-biking neighbours tell me they like the way it sounds too.

For the record, folks have been putting Harley mufflers on Goldwings since before the internet browser revolution came upon us. So, we don't have clear records of who the first was, but I suspect it was in the 80s when was first attempted. Lots of instances of folks through the 90s doing it with reports on forums exploding in the early 2000s.

Reason for their popularity is pretty simple. They sound darn good and they are darn cheap when compared to the aftermarket alternatives.

Yep. I had been using Harley mufflers on the GS400 based winter machine for a couple of years because they were cheap so when I put Mr.H together in '97 I got another set for it. I'm sure I wasn't the first to do that or even the first on any forum but when I started mentioning it on bike forums around the turn of the century there was some discussion about whether they would work. Now it is common practice, which has actually driven the price of good Harley mufflers up quite a but but they are still the best buy for the price.

About 20 years ago when I first started messing with this '82 I shelled out $400 to Dennis Kirk for a brand new set of downturns, within 2 years the chrome was peeling and they started to rust. So I'm a little bit wary of using anything else but stock now. The Harley ones ought to be okay though, my 2002 road king's chrome is still in good shape.

Harley has long been known for using some of the best Chrome in the business. Deep plating and long-lasting. I'll bet Bob could weigh in on that with his experience in the harsh clime of the Frozen, salted north.

Mr.H is the summer bike so it sees very little road salt. The ones I put on it in '97 are still on it but for the last 2 or 3 years I've had to clean rust spots off when I take it out of storage so I've been thinking about replacing them eventually.

Winter is a whole different matter. When I was commuting every day Harley mufflers usually lasted me 7 or 8 years on the winter bikes

Delkevic offers several variations of complete systems for 1000s and 1100s. Good stuff. Not cheap, but not horribly expensive either. They're stainless and very well made.

I've looked at those. the gentleman I bought my interstate bags from had their system on his 1000. he didn't start it but he said they have a nice sound.
If I go with harley take off's I'll need headers as I don't want to cut up the original system as it's in good shape.

I adapted a set of Yoshimura mufflers made for a CBR1000 to my 1000/1200 swap. Had to cut the original muffler lead-in pipes off and weld up some adapters to get them onto the 1200 manifolds, so it was kind of a PITA. They're actually a bit huge, but they sound pretty good for mufflers you can see all the way through. Not loud.
