GL1100 carbs
I haven't posted anything in years. No I'm not dead LOL... I had a bunch of old motorcycle parts and decided to sell them on market place. Well a very nice young man, Ethan, dropped buy and bought them. We started talking about motorcycles and he mentioned he had a GL1100 and was having carb issues. So I mentioned that I would take a look. He brought over the cleanest set of carbs I've ever seen. All I could find wrong was float levels way out and not sealing the needle. He had two sets of carbs and the clean set had a mismatched carb so I swapped it onto his very clean plenum. Bench sync and leak test and they look good to me. Oh sync was so far out I doubt that it would have ever idled and certainly wouldn't have taken throttle.
Long story short. Ya I've been away but I still remember how to do a set of carbs
I'm really looking forward to him getting the old girl running. I hope he rides it over here and I can do an on bike sync and make sure his ignition timing is correct.

Re: GL1100 carbs
Those were my carbs that you worked on, and I really appreciate you taking a look and helping me out. Back this spring I posted a topic "Carburetor Woes" and tried sorting the issues out myself before threatening to go single carb conversion and eventually shelving the project until recently. I'll get these installed over the holidays and once the weather warms up I will certainly bring it by to show you, as well as some more venison snacks for you to enjoy! Thanks again for your help I really appreciate it.

Cool story, it's always fun to make a connection with a like minded person and help out a little. My brother and I rode an hour one time to help a young Honda guy with a wiring problem. With our help he found it and fixed it.

Re: GL1100 carbs
It is also rewarding to work with someone else who is in to goldwings, I get lonely in Buffalo so when a guy posted on craigslist he was looking for someone to work on his '77, I contacted him. he thought he had compression issues (he didn't) but the brakes needed work and I asked him "do you know when the belts were last changed?" So I agreed to work on his bike. I had to take the engine out to repair the rust behind the rear master cylinder, which was when I discovered the repair needed on the rear swingarm, so that had to come out too. Well I couldn't put the engine back in without making it at least look better. I was having so much fun I got a little carried away, sent him some pictures, and now he's excited too, but the dominoes keep falling... It's nice to be part of a community.Whiskerfish wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 8:52 am Seems like it seldom happens but helping out younger folks just starting in these hobbies is very rewarding. Re: GL1100 carbs
Thanks, I'm having fun and learning more too. I was very concerned about the finish on the new rear brake pistons because it wasn't smooth or polished, Sirius said they would be ok, and they work great! also discovered you can run soda blast media through a sandblast gun, so now the carbs look better too!
