Tweaked front forks.

#1

Post by MikeNTexas »

I just finished a 76 project and went for a test ride and noticed that the handlebars and gauges are a few degrees off from centered. What is the cause of this? Bent triple tree maybe? I put an angle finder on the forks and there appears to be about a 2-1/2 degree difference between the angles of the forks. Is it going to take a new triple tree to fix this?

I found a video on you tube on aligning the front wheel by loosening everything on the front end but the top punch bolts then adjusting it like I use to straighten my bicycle handlebars when I was a kid and tighten it all back up. It worked! Runs straight and true now.

Yep, was going to say, loosen some stuff up, give her a twist and a shake, and it’ll straighten right out.

A friend who is a Honda trained mechanic taught me to loosen everything except the upper clamp's pinch bolts and then sit on the bike with the front wheel against a wall and bounce the suspension as hard as you can a few times to align the front end (tighten everything back up afterward),
Works every time.
