Yes it starts up an idles at 1000 rpm according to the og tach but for some reason after I rev it up or twist the throttle the carbs go back to shut but it idles at 2500 but if I take my hand an press the the number 3 carb throttle bracket it'll drop down to 1000 if I'm holding it down let it go an itll Rev up to 2500 or more

Maybe switch the vacuum lines around, when switched they should read the same as the previous gauge did if they’re good, if not then you need to figure out which is correct.

I kinda think that carb 2 an 4 aren't getting fuel. I took the plugs out an bike started an ran like it normally has been but the spark plugs were sparking off the frame an shocking me a Lil bit lol I've turned the pilot screws out the 2.5 turns its recommended an nothing

Just rereading this thread I noticed that you said you used silicone/rtv to hold the o’rings into the intake grooves, this may be your vacuum leak as any contact of the RTV with gasoline will cause it to dissolve &create a leak path. You cannot use RTV anywhere that it might contact fuel.

Myself, I only use a light dab of Permatex #2 non-hardening as it is resistant to fuel and will keep the o’rings in place. So my advice is to remove the intakes and the o’rings, thoroughly clean the o’ring grooves of any & all rtv remnants. Take a q’tip and lightly coat the o’ring grooves with permatex #2 and install new o’rings, wipe any excess that might ooze out when you put the new o’rings in.

I also put a very light coating of the permatex #2 inside the boots, emphasis on a very light coating, this helps to make the boots slide onto the carbs much easier and helps seal that joint. The non-hardening #2 also helps when it comes time to pull the elbows off. Install everything and resync your carbs.

One other thing I will say is that years ago I made a fixture to be able to test the intake elbows for leaks, I found that generally all of the 10 or so that I tested actually leaked at the 5mm test port somewhat significantly, so after syncing your carbs you need to add an aluminum/brass/copper washer to that screw to reduce any possible leak there, a tiny dab of #2 permatex on the threads there won’t hurt either. Also on my test fixture I found that the o’ring groove on older manifolds become quite rough with lots of minor cratering which is really why I started smearing the #2 permatex in there to provide a smooth sealing surface for the o’ring. New(er) manifolds generally still have the smooth “machined” o’ring groove so no sealer is required other than to keep the o’ring in place. 40+ years seems to erode the sealing surfaces in the manifolds for some reason.

RTV is a very bad choice for anything that contacts fuel, it just dissolves and will create vacuum leak paths, anyway let us know how you do.

RTV is pretty poor in most applications other than exhaust, IMHO. I just use dabs of very thick Dow Corning High Vacuum Grease to lubricate the o-rings so they stay in place and can move around to seal.

Would compression affect the way it sounds. Several months ago did a compression check all 4 read 75 psi an that was when I had the valves set to .004

Compression definitely will affect the way it sounds & runs, more compression give it a deeper “rumpff” and more “pop” to the exhaust. Compression is a major but not all thing responsible for engine torque.

75psi across the board is pretty low, so let me ask, had this bike/motor been sitting for an extended time when you got this reading ? A lot of times a motor will read quite low after sitting but will increase with time & use. Also are you confident that your gauge is accurate ? Being that all the cylinders read at 75psi really makes me question your gauge. As a reference Honda claims that the GL should have 171psi cranking compression. Very few actually do. Most are 135-150psi. As a reference, my 76 had 135-145psi from new but currently is a little above & below 200psi thanks to milling the heads .040in and advancing the cams +4 degrees which both pump up the compression, fairly significant but frankly a pretty invisible results. There is no wheelie popping, whiter teeth, better sex life because of it,,, but you do notice how much easier you can build speed on a on-ramp, it’s just effortless to get up to 75-80mph, 100mph is an easy reach.

One other thing is that setting your valve lash to .006in will shorten the cam duration and bump up your compression and that .002in less lift will have no real noticeable effect on the performance, but with only 75psi cranking compression I doubt that it would be noticeable. Have you rechecked it lately?

Also, one last thing, have you cleaned & removed the rtv silicone from the o’ring grooves ? It will really screw with things. If not, do that first ! I hope this all helps !

Make sure the throttle grip is twisted and held wide open when compression testing. The choke button is fully pushed into its off position, too. Fully charged battery. Don't bother counting a recommended number of rotations.

Crank the engine until the compression testing gauge pointer needle won't climb any higher on the numbered gauge face.
Will take no more than 12ish seconds, maximum.
