installing front brake piston boot [gl1000]

Post by jml74 »

Is there a trick to installing the dust boot on the front brake calipers on a GL1000 ('78, if it matters), or does it just take three hands and holding your mouth right? I've fiddled with it for a while now and can't get everything lined up right at the same time.
The one that looks like this.

Currently messing with my front brakes ('76) and haven't gotten there yet, but my rear brake was "fiddle with two hands and hope it somehow works".

Far as I can tell the boot should sit down on its own. The hard part is getting the retaining wire ring on without pinching the boot. I opened the ring up best I could and still had to work it around the perimeter the last inch or so. I wonder if there's enough clearance on the caliper to use a piston ring tool?
