Wouldn't lacquer thinner get that coating off? Seems like that would be better than (not then) abrasion.

Well you folks know your stuff so reaching out to let them know seems to be in order. I'll be sure to replace my belts too.

I've got some laying around so I'll give that a test and return with the results.

Edit: Lacquer thinner wasn't able to move it off the points so it must not be grease/petroleum etc based.

Being that lacquer thinner didn’t remove it means it must be some kind of epoxy or powder coat, maybe some kind of blueing, but that should conduct fine, don’t know.
