new 755A carb rebuild

#1

Post by nakedinterstate81 »

Hello all,
I received a decent 1975 Gl1000 carburetor to rebuild since I can't figure out why my # 2 header is not as hot as the others with the current one.
Anyway, it's in decent shape, not too much sludge in there and I was able to remove all jets and nozzles easily.
Even managed to get both emulsion tubes out unharmed.
Have a Randakk kit ready to go in there.

But....the ball link on the throttle bell crank seems to have been snapped off right where the c-clip secures it (circled).
The throttle link was just sitting there and I pulled it off by hand.
Looks like I either need a new bell crank with a good ball link or fabricate something else.
Any ideas?
Does anyone have a spare?

anim-cheers1, Pat

I had this same problem and I came to the conclusion it would be best to find a replacement on eBay.
Here is one:

I believe that there might be a later rack in my shed, but not a '75.

I'll look early (when it's cool in the shed) before church tomorrow.

Cooled off enough this evening to check. I actually have two - BUT! they are later model ('78 and '79). The connections are not balls but simple posts (I believe that changed after '75). If you need one, come by tomorrow after ~2pm.

Yup. The ball connections and throttle linkage arms are unique to '75 models.
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- It Runs (Poorly) and Doesn't Leak (Mostly)
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Broke the Chain And Ate the Motor
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

A steady hand and good tools should be able to drill the end and put a screw in it to assure it stays on. But, I believe the spring-loaded end should hold it on anyway.

Thought about that. Has enough meat for M2x 0.4. it's stainless and harder to cut.
I deleted the springs on my other carb and replaced them with compressed springs to eliminate the slop.
Worth a try though. Good call!

Thanks John,
I bought the one Cedric mentioned on ebay.
My small drill bits could not cut into the ball link.

If you are not already past this stage with the rebuild, do this. You won't believe the difference it can make.

Oh yes, I saw your post earlier this year and contacted you about it.
I did that to the original 75 carb, which gave me trouble synchronizing it.
I removed the compressing springs and replaced them with expanding spring (photo).
I was able to cut the springs down so they just had enough pressure on the ball link and no slop.
Thanks for mentioning it.
