Or hang it on the wall.....

If it was a rat bike I'd say to clamp the big end on the frame somewhere ;)

But either way, you now know why it hits only on 3 cylinders LOL. A good sync of the carbs and setting the timing correctly will make it run right either way.

:oldies A friend once told me about someone who bought a bike that was a real lemon and the dealer wouldn't make it right. Eventually some failure required replacing a piston so he fixed it and rode it back to the dealer's to trade it in on another model.
He didn't tell them about the new piston turned from hardwood. :oldies

Many thanks for all the great advice.

Fixing the two float valve leaks did the trick. No more pooling in
the plenum and she runs fine.

Now on to address a buncha exhaust leaks. Time to bolt on the Sportster mufflers
with fresh header exhaust gaskets.

Needs a good run to get her back on her "feet".

I can stop taking antidepressants now......

Dave you’re going to like the Sportster mufflers ! They look good and sound nice, not loud but a good sound! No, I don’t have them on anything I own but I know a few that do.

Mr.H has had the same pair of HD mufflers since I put it together in '97 (I really must get to the local Harley guy and see about replacing them this year). My non-biking neighbours tell me that they like the way it sounds, loud enough to tell it's a bike but not enough to make their windows rattle ;)

I had some on my 78 for a while til I changed to the Ducati ones. Still have the Harly ones in the rafters of my shop. They did sound sweet. The Ducati are quieter, but the look goes better with the bike.

Really happy about the regulator upgrade. I hated getting stuck in stopped traffic
as there wasn't enough charge at idle. Constant 13+ volts whenever now. Phew.

First test ride today. Perfection. Unfortunately my source of ethanol free gas
seems to have evaporated. I may hafta Cyborg the Wing next winter.

Or just drain it before storage. I've said countless times that even the best gas with the best stabilizer will eventually deteriorate, gel and eventually turn to varnish. There is no absolute guarantee that you will take the bike out of storage when you planned to and draining it is cheap insurance against the possibility of someone having to deal with the mess that causes.
And on top of that there's the issue of water in the tank. Unless you live in the desert and never take it out when there is a cloud on the horizon you will have water in there (a stray drop from filling in the rain, condensation from damp air that enters the tank when you drive on a humid day &c) and it is heavier than gasoline so it sits on the bottom with no way to get out unless you periodically drain the tank and let the water evaporate.
I've told this story many times too: My 'Wing's PO put it away for the winter, then had an accident at work that ended biking for him. It sat for 10 years before I got it (6 years outside) but he had the foresight to drain the tank for storage and when I looked inside it was as clean as the day it rolled off the line.
I am so grateful that he didn't leave it full.

What Bob said is the best method ^^^^ I personally believe that with the exception of storing your bike that there is way to much “fear mongering” over the ethanol laced stuff we have now, you used a Randakks Viton kit so it won’t hurt the rubber in the carbs, now use his Viton petcock kit and you’re all set ! Just keep in mind that ethanol will absorb water even out of the air so the ethanol will keep your fuel system clean BUT will also puddle water in the bottom of the tank if allowed to sit and rust out your tank, possibly.

On the regulator/rectifier,, I have a Ricks Mosfett unit and the other day when I was doing the compression/leak-down testing I noticed that even when idling at 1100rpm it was charging at 13v and even when rev’d to 4K it would only charge to 14v, just perfect imho.

The oe factory setup would charge 10v to16.5v never really controlled well, the Ricks unit is sooo much better ! Anyway, Dave enjoy your bike and let us know how it goes.
