Depending on what you are trying to figure out measuring the current (amps) can often tell you more than measuring the pressure (volts).
Well, I have hooked the sense wire in with one of the two red wires. I am now getting a steady 14.9 volts across the battery terminals. It goes up to 15.6 on higher rpm’s. No more than 15.6. I’m not sure if these are correct numbers, or if it’s still charging too much. An 8 mile ride produces 13.6 across the terminals after the ride. With the bike shut down.
Still awaiting delivery of the Electrosports Industries R/R ? ;)

I actually got it yesterday. Lol. Just thought I’d try and get this one to work. I’m also a little worried about screwing up the Electrosport unit. Looks like I’m gonna have to try it though. I’m running out of options.

If your meter says a 9V battery is 9.6 it is reading a bit high. The 15.6 it says could easily be 15 (in spec).
The next thing to do is measure the bike's voltage again with a different meter.

Got the Electrosport unit in today. It’s charging at 13.2 at idle, and no higher than 14.6 at speed. Bingo! Should have got a good one from the start. Lol

Perfect! I 👍

Now that millerdog has reported the Electrosports R/R assembly has filled the bill, I wanted to share this:

I sent a request for information email to Electrosports last Friday. In the company's online catalog I had located their GL1000 plug and go R/R assembly ESR290 but as usual there was zero product technical information. Mÿ interest was its maximum charging voltage and if that p/n utilized mosfet technology.
Within an hour their Sales Manager replied. His reply was Very Informative.
I've already shared most of this information with millerdog last Friday.

Here 'tis, verbatim, for the rest of y'all, too.

"Hello,

That unit will charge to 14.7dcv maximum. This one is not a mosfet unit. We typically do not make mosfet units for older applications because there is always a risk that the wire harness is in poor shape. A mosfet unit is more likely to have charging complications when a wire is shoddy than a traditional reg/rect circuit. The traditional circuit will just chug along when the harness is in poor shape (of course there is a limit).

We do have mosfet and series regulators for someone interested, but they would not be in a format that directly plugs into the GL1000, a user would need to change connectors. So someone could use our CBR600RR mosfet unit in the same fashion you have.

Thank you,

Kyle Wood - Sales Manager"

chug along. nooooo

Or the '78 that I rescued and bypassed the yellow phase wire that went to the left handlebar switch connector. Just couldn't see the use for that extra meter of wire in the USA (I know, they left it on from Euro models).

I read all the responses. I don’t have much electrical knowledge. I see where you all have mentioned installing a regulator/rectifier. It leads me to believe that is two in one. I believe my bike has two individual components. A regulator and a separate rectifier. How do I take two and make it one ? Does the new component automatically function as two. Will I need to override the regulator? If so what would be the new wiring set up? Sorry. New to the electrical part of motorcycles.
