I've tried that. It does work fairly well, especially with tubed tires (it helps keep the tube from getting pinched).

on tubeless tires You don't even need a compressor, just some brake cleaner and a lighter...

You still need the compressor.
When the hot gasses from the explosion cool, it will suck the tire right back off the rim.
