Motorcycle storage bag

#1

Post by kerryb »

I recently arrived in Florida for a couple months, only to be appalled by the amount of corrosion on my goldwing, sitting in my garage. The problem is that the garage door is opened twice a day to let a car in and out. So...everytime the warm moist air from outside, comes in and condenses on my cooler motorcycle, the salt takes another whack at my bike!
I'm looking for suggestions or experience with a water tight plastic bag to put the bike in when I leave for home this year. I found one from California Car Covers, but would like to hear any suggestions or warnings you may have. Thanks.

Never heard of such a thing but that does not mean anything! Maybe a room dehumidifier for your garage? My Dad kept one in his garage down there (St Cloud) for years but I never heard of any issues.

I wouldn't seal it up in any type of plastic..you will still get condensation and there won't be any air movement to dry it off. Is there a climate control storage facility you could leave it in?
If it was me, I would coat all the shiny stuff with a thick coat of fluid film. It might be some work to clean it off but it will protect the metal.

I have heard of such a thing. My brother in law had one. Cpompletly enclosed, floor as well, had a fan to move air and keep a positive pressure in the bag. and also temp control. Seemed to work in Ohio. But not cheep.

I think I've seen what Cyborg is talking about. I know nothing about them, other than that they exist.

This is the bag I'm considering. It's like gore-tex, it stops moisture coming in but lets water vapor out. Can be used with moisture absorbent packets inside too.
My choices don't include a dehumidifier because the door is opened twice a day...would cost a fortune in electricity. My only other choice is to tell the person using the garage that they can't anymore. That is a possibility, just not the preferred one.

I'm really lucky, we got her a new garden shed for garden tools and patio furniture, but it's big enough That two of my bikes fit in there for storage!

I built a 14 x 14 addition to my shed for the bikes so the boss could put her car in the garage in the winter. there is a motorcycle and tractor in there now.

I'm even luckier. When we moved here I built 2 sheds, one for the garden stuff and one for motorcycles. I guess I have pretty good willpower too because there is still only 1 bike in the shed and 1 in the garage :orange :orange

If that cover lives up to the claims it might be worth the price.

Search for Car Capsule company. They make a moto bag. I use their capsules for my Porsche. Power usage is very low; similar to a computer fan.
