Accel or dyna coils ???
I need new coils for my 1978 gl1000 . Are dyna coils best deal? Are they easy to install? I have a dyna s electronic ignition. Where do I buy them? Can I get new wires and caps ?

Re: Accel or dyna coils ???
if I were replacing my coils I would most likely go with dyna. I would be willing to bet most of the online places have them, so I would check chapperel, motorcycle superstore, bike bandit etc

Re: Accel or dyna coils ???
I would say they are pretty much equal. I have all Dyna stuff. Since you have Dyna ignition may as well saty with the same brand. They are both about the same as far as install goes. You will need to cut about 1 1/2"-2" off the end of the air filter housing breather to clear the coils. The best price I find is usually Z1enterprises.com.

+1 Dyna. you likely already know; green 3.0 Ohm units. two needed. fairly easy install.
Z1 Enterprises seems to have the best price. from what I've heard. I've bought from them several times.

I have the 3 ohm coils and didn't have to cut away the breather.
Great that is running.

Re: Accel or dyna coils ???
I'm contemplating upgrading to a Dyna ignition and coils. The info on this thread is very helpful, but I do have one question.
Will these Dyna plug wires work with the OEM style plug caps?
Wires: http://www.z1enterprises.com/Dyna-Ignit ... k-208.aspx
Caps: http://www.randakks.com/Ignition%20Parts.htm#1
The reason I'm asking is that I'd like to keep as much of the stock look as possible. The coils don't show, but the plug wires and caps do.
Thanks,.

Re: Accel or dyna coils ???
They might but I don't think it would be the ideal setup?? The dyna wire is much thinner in diameter that the stock stuff and I am not certain how the internal construction of the wire would like the screw in post of the OEM style caps??
That said I am sure someone on here has done that before and can answer more definitively.

Re: Accel or dyna coils ???
I installed the Dyna ignition, coils, and the DW200 wires along with new plug caps. I kinda did it piecemeal (ignition and plug caps first, then the coils and wires a year later). Everything went together fine. Robin1731 has a suggestion for spark plug gaps after upgrading to the coils. He'll be along with the number (about .030" but I can't remember exactly). The plug caps are the angled NGK ones. Randakk carries them (among others). Dyna tech support is pretty good.

I'm here . Some will say you can run a much bigger gap with the Dyan parts. As much .035" or more. Best way is to try different settings on your bike. It may end up at .028 or maybe .032. I run mine at .030. Set yours and ride it for awhile. See how it performs. Check the gas mileage. Run them where you get no miss fires and the best fuel mileage and you'll be happy. I run NGK plugs too. You'll get different opinions on those too. But use what you want.

Re: Accel or dyna coils ???
Please note that if you run resistor plugs, don't run resistors in the plug caps.
If you run non-resistor plugs then you could run resistors in the caps if you want.
The resistors reduce the radio noise from the spark system.
I do not recommend resistance type spark plug wires like most cars run. They can break down fairly easy and most reduce spark a lot.
I run copper wires and solder all connectors. I am currently running irridium plugs that are not resistor. It make some radio noise but I sure like the fat spark!!
I have dyna ignition and coils on the ole 79 also ....
