Viking saddlebags for GL1000, 1100, or 1200
Has anyone equipped Viking brand saddlebags to their GL? I just had a "chat" with the company and the their tech person said their bags won't fit my bike (84 standard). I find it hard to believe our bikes are that odd shaped! He then posted something like "you'll need to drill the fender". Well, yeah, OK. That was it. Not the best service I've ever encountered.
So, has anyone here attached Viking brand bags to their rig? If so, any pointers?

Yeah they seem to have a hard time wrapping their head around adapting something to fit.
I'm considering these:https://www.vikingbags.com/lamellar-bla ... lebags.htm

They are a little odd shaped. You'll have to customize mounts for any after market bag that you can get and IMHO none of them fit the bike as well as OEM bags and mounts at least on the 1100 and 1200s.

I always make my own mounts. That way I get the fit and positioning I want. I don't happen to like hard bags but they're no more difficult to mount than the soft type. I'm not a very good welder but you do need to be able to stick things together and do a decent bend in steel rod - the way I do it anyway. So a wire-feed welder and oxyacelylene would be necessary.
With this equipment, some Hammerite gloss black and a little (no, a lot) of patience, you can mount anything on your bike.
