Yea the pull cable has a adjuster down beside the Air filter canister. A bit too loose is better than a bit too tight. Too tight can lead to all kinds of synch and return to idle issues.

So about a year this my cable(s) snapped. It has been sitting so finally I purchased another set push/pull I'll be taking a look and hopefully fixing today. Any ideas what would have caused premature breakage?
I'll be working on this at a co-op shop today hopefully they can help me get it done correct. I hope gas not spoiled. Oh fun I forgot I need to remove faux tank.

I have never remove the shelter frame to work on the cables. The Air filter housing yes. there must have been something seriously wrong to snap that fast. Kink in the sleeve or routed wrong or defective cable or something.

Make sure you lube them, as well. The last couple of cables I've bought new weren't lubed at all, that I could tell...

Yep...got it done...maybe i didnt lube it enough the first time? yesterday thoroughly lubed the cables. replaced both lines. learned a little trick to keep cables unmounted until the ends are in bell crank and throttle sleeve first. Im not good in tight spaces so it was helpful to have the faux tank and air parts out. im slow. took me all day.
next up is carbs. going to do randakks kit i guess. i know there are plenty of services out there but I think ill do it myself. maybe ill offer a service after that. lol

How to lube new cables the old fashioned way. Note that I have added funnels to the top ends and sealed them to the outer sheaths with duct tape and placed the garbage can below to catch drips, then added some oil and by the time I got the camera set up it was already dripping from the throttle cable (that's what I'm pointing at). I did this right before quitting for the night and left them hanging overnight to finish dripping but an hour would have probably been enough.

BTW: I put the "clothesline" that the cables are hanging from up across the shop to hang something on a few years ago and decided it would be useful. Since then it has been used many times for everything from those cables to hanging the bike cover to dry after using it to keep ice off at work). Right now it has a bunch of freshly painted engine parts on wire hooks.

Talking to backyardbob years ago he claimed that the cables on his 400,000 plus mile bike were original. Naturally skeptical I inquired how that could be. Every winter he removed his cables and set them up like you have in the pic above and would use gear oil (90 wt) and wait until it came out clear at the bottom before placing them back into service.

The cables I'm lubing in that pic are a throttle cable and a clutch cable for my 650....
