Darkside on 84 standard

the rear on a 1200 is not a true 15" rim. it is more like 15.25, so I doubt you can fit a 17" car tire

There are a couple write ups at Classic where they had to modify the rim to get the tire bead to seat. I don't recall what size tire they used. I looked briefly but couldn't find it. Joedrum did it and I think brianinpa

The part they modify is the ridge that helps keep the bead on. It probably does take some of the rim's integrity but I haven't heard of any failures yet. Not sure of how long it's been practiced. Rodgers advice is probably well merited and influenced some by what happens when things go wrong. After my recent fall off a pedal powered bike, I don't want to go down on any two-wheeled version. The forces generated by the fall are huge.

for the front means using a rear bike tire on the front in reverse rotation,

benefits? for rear, way longer tire life, run flat options, can be waay cheaper
