Thoughts on bike trade....

#1

Post by Nybz »

I know there's a few people out there that have dappled in numerous bikes over the years, but looking for people advice who have done it longer then me. I thought the goldwing was the ultimate bike. But insurance is high per month with out collectors. ($113 monthly) compared to 400cc being $38 monthly.
The cc's are nice when I need them, but I am mostly booting around town and the occasional 'need to get out of the city ride and camp'
I guess I am still looking for the prefect one (story of my life it seems....hm) something in between....perhaps....

1980 Cm400t is my first bike that I ripped apart and customized. But too small now.
1982 goldwing 1100 this past fall, has been lot of work for me so far....enjoying it but proving to be a money pit.
Don't get me wrong enjoy the learning and tinkering and riding the old beast.

But recently got my eyes on 1979 cb750 limited edition, low KMs, collectors...

Any suggestions... am I crazy for getting rid of old goldy?

Wow! You must be looking at full coverage for a bike that's only worth $2000 in the real world, I pay $60 a year for liability on my 76 with the lizard......good luck

Since Nybz mentions km, I'm guessing he's in Canada where everything costs a fortune. The best price I've found for classic bike insurance is Haggerty. But they may not operate in Canada.

That seems a lot for insurance, maybe that's how it is wherever you are. I pay 'only' £100ish for a year, but I am 57!

Wow. That's a lot of coin for bike insurance. Don't need it here if the bike is paid for and you wear proper gear.

Canada is completely different when it comes to bike insurance. I only pay like 230 a year (liability only) for 2 GL's here in Va. But still I would shop around before making any hard decisions. If you get your bike running right and get some miles on it you may find it hard to part with.

I am in British Columbia Canada, where we have a single province wide insurance provider.
No real shopping around here.
Rascals.

But the collectors plates are cheap!
It is definitely worth it on a $2000-$3000 bike. I could pay $1200 a year in insurance for a Goldie.

Collector plate in British Columbia are a fantastic deal. I pay $300.00 a year for my '85 LTD - one of the reasons it is on the road and not the 1800. It rides and handles well and the partner likes her back seat. Did a 250 Km road trip yesterday, two up and all is well. Can never compare north of the 49th with the south.

Cheers

What's the big deal about a "collector" plate. Here we call them "antique" plates.
