Went to Bike night

Post by 77Gowing »

Hey, the MC dealer I bought my Indian from has been after me to come up to Gibraltar Trade Center's Bike night, so since I could not take my GL out I took the Scout. Wow! there were a couple a hundred bikes there, mostly big Harley's a few rice grinders crotch rockets etc. I felt like a total Gomer and out of place but folks I met seemed really nice. My scout though it is rated @ 100 HP, looked like a toy compared to the big bikes I saw. That not withstanding, I think my choice was a good one for me as I develop my riding skills. I filled out my ticket to win an Indian "Thundercloud" or something. If I win, I'll rename it BlunderCloud! Cheif of the Methane Indian tribe. It was fun, and I intend to go back. Had a nice ride home along north & then south River roads making my way home. I was a little wide on a couple of turns, so I'm acutely aware I need more confidence. Whenever I find myself getting tense making turns I'm more prone to mistakes. Thus far no scratches or wrecks.

PS. lots of folks offered me drinks and I sure wanted a cold beer, but I promised my wife and myself, no alcohol at all when riding. On the way home I found my new saddles held quite a bit of beer for when I got home.

I have been thinking about a new Scout, I am 71 retired plumber with bad knees I have had one replaced last Nov. and one to go. As a Shriner I rode an Ultra's in the Green Bay Motor Corp but the bike got to big and heavy for me, and didn't feel comfortable with my wife on the back so sold it. I love the new Chief's but then again they are big and heavy also.

As I learned in a rider safety course years ago, that helped me riding in parades doing figure eights turn your head in the direction you want to go and that will tighten up your turns.

Hacksaw, those scout really appeal to me also. Nice size bike, really low seat hight. And they say it makes
good power. Plus it's naked and nice looking. I'm with you!
