Again, another bikes have been added to the collection. CB750 content!
Hello to my favorite bunch of knowlegdable rider friends,
I decided my life was not full enough so I got a new project to work on.
It's going to be a slow build / restoration as summer it always busy on my side.
Back story.
I was talking motorcycle with a group of friends that know nothing about bikes. One of them tells me that his father has a bike that he hasn’t ride in years. He knows it's a honda and that's it's not a Goldwing. I thought it might be a Shadow or maybe something V-twin as I know his father and these bikes would fit him.
Couple of months later, my friend is at his parent's place and he takes some pictures of the bike and send them to me.
I recognize the bike, it's a 1982 CB750K. I knew it right away as this is the only year it was painted in blue.
That bike was far from pristine. It has sat for 10 years, but it had been started every years. Paint is too rough to my taste, seals are shot, tires are shot. You know, a good old barn find.
On the up side, it has wire wheels, it's not missing any parts and the owner has the registration, so it can be put back on the road without too many hurdles. And the guy was willing to bargain a bit. And to top it all, we were able to start it with a battery pack and it idles.
So I bought it for $550 and brought it home.
The goal is to have it ready to drive before the end of July and then to have it modified to my tastes by September.
I’ll post pictures as I go along.
By the way, I’ll looking for forums similar to this on but for CB750.
Cheers

Painted the wheel, the disc and the speedo gear.
Caliper not painted yet and I need to disassemble it to give it a good clean.
First shot of the front end. Getting there!

The engine aluminum will shine with a fabulous luster - way nicer than paint. But, first the factory clear coat must be removed. You could use chemical means or good old-fashioned elbow grease.

I know. But this one is really rough...
I "might" polished the cover and paint the rest of the engine.
I have to say polishing looks good once done. I've done the covers on my 1974 TS 250 and they came out good.
Cheers

I don't know. Probably fall down on something...I don't think thers is a way to repair this except cutting out the dent and welding a new piece.
Do you think it can have an impact on combustion? I don't know much about the impact of a dent like this.
But it does look worst than it is.

May not hurt with a stock engine. Hard to tell till you ride it and check header temps and plug color.
There is a way to "fix" it. (make it better) But it screws up the chrome.

I'm fine with screwing the chrome. It is not very nice anyway. They will all be wrapped.

Just like removing a dent from sheet metal. Weld on some studs. May take some heat to make it easier. Then a slide hammer on the studs.

Could fill the pipes with water and throw them in the chest freezer when the wife isn't looking. Doesn't cost anything to try.

if you can find a ball bearing the same size as the ID of the pipe you could heat the dent up and drive the bearing thru the pipe.
