Re: over heating trying to sync carbs
problem #28 in this link might be causing such a comparatively huge difference in vacuum gauge readings, on either side of the engine.

Specifically, the positioning of the 2 flat washers on each synchronization screw.
Located In Octane's tutorial post#28, examine its 5th picture for a visual of the 2 washers' correct placements:

Re: over heating trying to sync carbs
I didn't touch those during my rebuild..so if they are wrong they have been.
The bike pulled really good in gear..it was rough idling and had a huge flat spot when pulling away.
I did manage to get he throttle response improved during my attempt but the chain was still very loud.
and there is the whole over heating thing.

Re: over heating trying to sync carbs
As you said, they may have been disassembled sometime before you serviced them.
As detailed in Whiskerfish photo for visual reference( that I sent you on a epic journey to find ), did you examine the synchronizer links on both sides of the carburetor rack yet?

Not yet. I was at the bike show I was planning on putting her in.gltriker wrote:As you said, they may have been disassembled sometime before you serviced them.

I was also talking to my bike mechanic who wanted to know where mine was. lol
I think I'm going to accept defeat and take it to him Monday.
However..I will go check and see if those screws do have the washers in the appropriate palce.
I'm more concerned with the over heating issue right now though.

Re: over heating trying to sync carbs
Did you test the fan to see if it actually works? If it turned on but was unable to move, it might've burned out.

Yes. It runs...the blade was binding on the motor case.tlbranth wrote:Did you test the fan to see if it actually works? If it turned on but was unable to move, it might've burned out.
The only thing I'm not sure of is whether or not the fan switch I used is working. It didn't protrude into the thermostat housing as much as the old one did.
I'm beginning to think this may be the problem.
The appropriate washers are in the right places on the sync screws as well.

Re: over heating trying to sync carbs
Make a temporary jumper for the fan switch wiring, and eliminate that issue/question for the time being. If it still overheats, you'll know you need to look elsewhere. As said earlier, high idle or other running issues can lead to an overheating problem. Pare it down so you can hopefully identify and fix one issue at a time. My 2 cents

Re: over heating trying to sync carbs
I tried to jump the fan switch last night but some idiot put a new connector on it that has extremely small terminals and I couldn't get a wire in the plug. lolTrack T 2411 wrote:Make a temporary jumper for the fan switch wiring, and eliminate that issue/question for the time being. I am convinced it is an idle, messed up carb reason. It didn't boil over when I had it idling in the driveway for half an hour, it's never run hot on my trips around the neighbourhood or on my 8 mile ride yesterday.
There is no oil in the anti freeze and no sweet smelling smoke coming from the exhaust.
I will be doing a brake job on the wifes suv tonite and I may attempt to by pass the switch...however now that it's licensed, insured and I've ridden it..I want to ride not tinker.
I have to take it to my mechanic for a safety inspection so I'm going to kill 2 birds with one stone..hopefully.
