Oh they still look good and it may be possible to polish them. I've never tried.
I can tell you..it does an amazing job of cutting down on the heat under the hood.

I'm getting close to having this thing done. I've currently got it all pulled apart for a spline lube, and I spent some time cleaning it up while things are apart. I'm not going as far as to powdercoat the frame like I did on the GL, although I probably should. There's some surface rust on the frame from being stored outside for years, but nothing that impacts the integrity. Plus, I'm kinda over spending money on this thing. $56 for a stupid clutch rod boot.

Image

I dropped off the body panels with a painter friend a couple weeks ago. After some plastic repair, it's going to wind up in Ford Canyon Ridge Metallic.

I also got the exhaust back from ceramic coating. I kinda wish I had spent the extra money for black instead of silver, but hey, the silver was $100 cheaper.

So, current status:

At least I have a little helper....makes those hard-to-reach bolts much easier to get to.

Well, I've acquired another $500 special

Image

1972 Kawasaki H2 750 Triple. The Widowmaker.

To make a (very) long story short, a local acquaintance got into trouble with the law and needed quick cash to pay off a bail bond. I was in the right place at the right time and took this home for a song. I never really wanted one, but it seems like a fun project and supposedly, they RIP. It's a '72 frame with a clear title and a '73 motor. Since it's not numbers matching or anything, I'll probably take it back to stock-appearing with some modern enhancements. Looking forward to diving into this one once I get the BMW off the table...

The only major component I'm missing are the pipes/chambers. I have all the bodywork and fenders, oil tanks, and associated doodads. The motor appears to have been recently overhauled with new pistons, so some of the hard work might already be done for me. Anyway, as time and tide permits, I'll get it up on the table and blown apart to see what I'm working with.

the only Kawi I've ever wanted. I remember them ripping around the high school. A friend has one he restored..and no..he won't sell it. :(
ETA... might as well put the exchange rate to work for you.
I've bought from Andy a few times. Great to deal with.

You better believe they do, they have a power curve that comes out of nowhere and you got yourself a deal at $500 considering how much they're selling for now. I didn't start riding till maybe 6 or 7 years ago mainly because bikes scared me up to that time and the reason why was because of the Kaw H2. Two of my older brothers had them when I was a kid and one too many joy rides with them put the fear of God in me for quite some time. One of my brothers kept his and then gave it to my nephew who restored it and recently sold it for $8,000 and it wasn't even 100% original either.

I refuse to disclose how many I have, but my main workspace is my basement, which contains 3 frames, four engines, and a wide assortment of parts. Seems I can't work on just one at a time, lol!

Still not sure why you're complaining about the SOHC running better than the GLs. Fix them!

I was wondering why the Kawi wasn’t in the lineup!

Now, how many of them will run without playing with them?

I don’t think I could get all 10 of my bikes in the same picture!

Two reasons for the missing Kawi:

1.She ain't running that great. It's hitting on all six cylinders, just not all the time.

2.Partially due to 1., pushing 750lbs. of motorcycle around is NOT great for my back.

As far as running? The two Goldwings for sure. The 1000 idles high when warm, but apart from that is great. The 1200 has had NO (knock on wood) mechanical problems so far, and has really been my golden boy.

The CT90 needs the battery charged, and still burns way more oil than it should, but will run as well. The 750 is getting closer, and the KZ1300 is.... see above.

It is not so much a disease as it is a passionate deliverance from other evil maladies. It keeps my hands busy so they don't end up screwing up something important. MBS keeps my mind occupied, so I don't get caught up in silly follies ( Ok so the vintage Winnebago was a minor setback, but she did let me get a helix clone for the back bumper) MBS also keeps me occupied in the workshop till late at night so we don't have any arguments over the tv. Lets see if I qualify for assistance...4 riders in the garage (2 goldwings), one in the garden shed, another goldwing in the tractor shed, one 77 honda (750) up for sale, one 78 cb750 on the table, another 750 hanging from the ceiling curing its paint, a side effect of being afflicted for so long is that I'm not sure how many more than four are hiding in the attic (minus their motors) awaiting to learn their fate as parts bikes or future fodder for the mental gymnastics. But hey, this affliction is keepig me sane...

Its all part of the adventure
intrigued by the wail...seduced by the scream.

Take it from someone who has owned a bmw for a very long time. The 400 you spent to buy it will probably be the least you will spend on it. I love the brand but parts are stupid expensive. That said would I buy a K100 for 400 bucks??? In a new york minute.
