Trying to pull the front wheel and can't seem to get it loose. Removed the left side pinch bolt and there appears to be a 12mm inverted hex bolt that wouldn't budge. Was using a makeshift tool so not a lot of force was applied. Does not appear to have any bolts on the right side. Am I missing something here or is it just that tight?

If it's what I'm thinking that is the axle and yes, it is threaded in. You need to remove it using your makeshift tool if it works. There is a special tool for that. It has a couple different sizes on it. Put it in there and then use a socket on the exposed end to turn it.

Proper tool is a 12mm allen wrench, not something I had on hand. Ended up taking a half inch adapter to the grinding wheel till it fit pretty snug. A couple of tugs and the axle came right out.

Turned my attention to the fuel tank today. Very rusty inside and no room to hang a anode for electrolisis. Picked up a gallon of muratic acid and spent the afternoon etching and rinsing. Looked pretty good by the end of the day so I dumped in some atf to combat flash rust. next up is to look at the carbs to see how bad they are gunked up. Will have to pick up a battery before being able to hear it run.
By the way, this belongs to one of my sons and he never has time to work on it.

Have fun lolol The way those carbs are mounted make the removal a pain. There's just barely enough room to squeeze the carbs, cables and fuel lines out from between the frame. I've worked on a few of them and I still haven't figured any easy way to do it. Patience, planning and adult beverages help.

I've heard these carbs are a pita to get in or out. They were pulled before it got here so I only have half the job. Of course that also means I have no idea what it is supposed to look like. Good news is that I am under no pressure to get it done.

Cleaned the carbs today. Slides were not sliding and required some polishing. One jet plugged and some silt in the bowls. On to the dreaded task of reinstalling them.

Got the carbs back on today, not fun. A block of wood and rubber mallet helped to get them seated on the intake manifolds. Wedged an inline fuel filter in the middle of the frame. Couldn't get the fuel pump to engage when I turned the key on but I did jumper the hot side to make sure the pump was good. Will try to trace the power source later. Need to obtain a battery soon for some serious testing.

Spent the afternoon trying to figure out power to the fuel pump. I can see the power going into the relay but cannot see where the relay gets its ground. The relay itself could also be toast as I couldn't seem to get it to trip on the bench with jumpers. To me, the ground seems to run off a combination of clutch switch, kill switch, side stand switch and de-comp control relay. Not sure what the de-comp relay is supposed to do. Could it be a way to lower the compression while cranking? Been testing with a jump box that has barely enough juice to turn it over, not sure if that would be a problem. Son said he would get a battery, still waiting.

Maybe you already know this, but some Intruders had fuel pumps with 4 wires and some had 2 wires. The pumps only have power for a few seconds when the ignition is first turned on and then cycles off, once the engine is cranking, the igniter supplies a ground to the relay to power up the pump.

This one is a four wire. I expected to see at least a momentary ground at the relay but so far nothing.

The wiring diagram that you posted shows two wires to the pump and four to the fuel pump relay. What year is the bike?
