This is what a custom CBX looks like after it's had the living daylights flogged out of it.

Just back from a 110 mile loop south out of the Metro area. Maricopa/Florence/Sacaton. Mostly open road, but a fair bit of urban stoplight dancing. Happy camper here. As with the GL, carburetors out of synch cause unseemly noises from the motor - but with the CBX, the noise comes from the clutch and not the primary chain. This baby just hums now. Still sounds busy, but not like a blender with gravel in it any more. Sheesh, my original set "rebuild' must have been crummier than I thought.

Genuine kudos to Mike Nixon. I think that guy knows what he's doing... crossy.gif

Sweet! Enjoy the ride! (I'd say I'm SO jealous, but I've probably said it three or four times in this thread already, lol!)

This one is on my bucket list for sure. And as for Monsieur Nixon of Prescott AZ: :notworthy:
He has my CB750 carbs right now and did a fantastic job on the head and cylinder I sent him. I wonder if he's got any unsed CBXs laying around he doesn't need...

Yikes! Methinks he's a bit optimistic on the price...

I was thinking that as well, especially with unknown miles, etc.

90k miles, Prolink. Somewhat less desirable than the early super sports, but still a CBX. Then again, the Prolink set up is superior to the twin shock. I actually have a Prolink swingarm already configured and ready to go on. Just Gotta stop riding the bike long enough to do it…

Yeah, I'm curious to see what it sells for. I've seen absolutely trashed (early) bikes with $5000 price tags, and new-condition examples at $10-15 grand. DEFINITELY too rich for my blood.
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- It Runs (Poorly) and Doesn't Leak (Mostly)
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Broke the Chain And Ate the Motor
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

Thank you, Liam. However, in the interest of adding noteworthy items to this thread, I should mention that the machine, beautiful as it is, had to be brought home on a trailer yesterday afternoon! First time I've had to do that with a motorcycle in more than a decade.

Ran well warming up, out the driveway, and onto the main road for about a mile. I was headed to the gas station and it began cutting out and actually died 20 feet from the pump when I got to the station. Was not out of gas and took 3 gallons. Refused to start back up. Spinning over effortlessly and firing random cylinders from time to time, no start. Fuel in the two outer bowls, and plenty of fuel in the in-line filter. Choke blades on both banks working as they should.

At that point, I called my buddy, who was kind enough to go get my trailer and come collect me.

That's all I know at this point. Will report back when I dig into it. This motorcycle has been running fabulously and has been a joy to operate. Dang it.

I got rid of the in-line filter, repositioned the outlet of the Pingel rearward, and ran a straight 45° slope of fuel line down to the inlet. Fired right up.

There was a weird interplay between slope of the line, the Pingel and that filter that created an air lock or something. This was the third occurrence, but by far the worst. I think I have it resolved once and for all now though.
