Craigslist find.

#1

Post by Gowing »

I called on a $100 1971 Kawasaki 175/ F7. The old guy had it for years in his heated garage.
I was surprised to see it in such good shape. Has not run in years. Tank is clean, 1750 miles.
Should run with a little tinkering. He said “I’m glad you came quick cause I’ve had over ten callers in 30 minutes.” The fella was 64 and the little 175 was parked next to his 1996 st1100 with 150,000 miles on it and that was parked next to his 74 year old buddy’s 83 1000 bmw.

Nice little tinker toy. It always does help if you are on top of craigslist ads like that and can move quickly.

But at 64 he's an old guy? Jeez that's a little harsh don't you think?

[attachment A friend of mine called a week after I bought this 175. He asked how it ran. I haven’t started it yet. I’m expecting some problems, dirty carb, air leakes, bad cdi, who knows. Has to have problems right?
Well wrong, i sprayed oil in cylinder to lube it up a little, mixed some gas at 20:1 even though it has autolube. And guess what? The darn old kwacker started on the third kick. Died, then restarted and idlled
just fine. I immediately put 50 miles on it after lubing the chain. The lights even work, without a battery,
So far so good. It’s so easy to wheel a 250 pound bike out of garage and throw a leg over it and go.
Quick escapes are good.
