Ran into another small snag. Pulling the pieces all together and tried starting the engine. It sputtered and started but ran poorly. Only hitting on two of the cylinders. Ignition system is very similar to our wings and found one coil was shorted across the primary. there was 12 volts on both terminals. Thought I had some old GL coils but couldn't locate them. Considering options including a junk yard visit for a Neon coil.

Senior moment caused me to believe I had a bad coil. Two items led me that direction. One connection from the points to the left coil came loose. Also I wasn't thinking about the points switching from coil to coil. Carbs will have to come out again. Something is still wrong as it will run only if I spray it.

Not getting far enough to have a venting problem and yes, the bowls are filling. I'm banking on crud because there was no fuel filter installed till recently. Pretty easy to pull the rack, four clamps and two cables.

Must not have the stock air box on? ;) If not, and they are CV carbs, you know it will run "off" when you get it running right?

Not too awful concerned about that at this time. Kid won't know the difference for a while and give me time to regroup. I do have a stock airbox in the pile if necessary.

Easiest to get it running with the stock box. As you know I'm sure.

Short clip. She starts and runs pretty good. Tires get mounted early next week. Then it gets sent home with the kid. His dad has to do some driver training and we are all prompting him to take a riding course. I'll be glad to get it out of my work area.

Suzuki went to it's home today. Kid is excited and ready to start riding. I rode it about 15 miles to their house and it ran good all the way. total investment is about $850.

Re-visited the Suzuki today. He has been having a hard time keeping it running. Dosen't want to start when hot and not enough power to pull above 4K. Fabricated a heat shield to ward off some of the heat from the coils and that seems to be better. Coils look to be newer accel brand, 5 ohm. May try mounting the neon coil pack to see if it is better. Still thinking on the power issue. Advance is working ok, carbs have settled and are doing ok. I haven't touched the valve settings so they could be off also. I could use some suggestions.

Suzuki came back here last weekend. Petcock was leaking real bad and of course it won't start. Put a new o-ring in to stop the leak and plan on a coil update to a neon coil. Carbs will have to be cleaned again and fix a couple of broken items (he dropped it).

On another note, a neighbor offered his abandoned 750 Shadow project for free. Don't know anything about it yet but it should be complete and comes with a spare engine. Should know more over the weekend.
