Sorry to hear about the accident but like several have said don't be too hasty to sell your bikes.
I live in Central Kentucky about 20 miles from the nearest town so deer in the road is very common around here. On most mornings I can see them in my yard. I have only hit one and I was in a minivan doing about ten mph so he just bounced off and kept running.
Around here the pill heads playing with their phones scare me more than the deer. People now a days just don't care anymore and will pull out in front of you just because they can.
I will be praying for your quick recovery. Dave

Yeah, don't give up yet. I gave up for 10 years after an accident and it cost me a very nice bike. It sat long enough for my son to take it apart and lose interest.

I had a break of 19 years after a dog ran out in front of me, luckily didn't hurt me too badly, but thought I'd have to give up biking. Then got my CB1300, and a couple of years later got my 1100. The position I'm in now is when they're gone, they're gone! Wouldn't be able to afford to get another one again.

I've only had 1 close call on a bike with a deer. The one on my bike came out from behind a barn into the road, saw me and tried to stop. It fell on it's side and was sliding towards me feet 1st. I laid down some skid marks and also hit the brakes then managed to swerve past it without hitting it. I did hit one with a van once, it limped away and the bill to my insurance company was $2800. Then 2 years ago I hit one with my Dodge Journey. I still had a temp tag on it and had just paid $10,000 for it. The damage was $6250 and the insurance paid to fix it. That deer didn't get back up. It was still sliding when the 2nd car hit it and went over top of it. The 3rd car knocked it off the road. Deer are overpopulated here in West Virginia. They really need to open up the season for a few years to thin the herd.
Sorry to here you hit one. Hope you make a speedy recovery! I've been down on a bike and I know how lucky I was to walk away from a crash at interstate speed.

I'm healing. Haven't made any permanent decisions on riding. Insurance adjuster was here today. They'll be picking up the bike tomorrow. The ribs are still rough, and will be for a couple more weeks or so. Dr said maybe another month. Was taking oxycodone every 4 hours. Quit that today and went to a tramadol and 2 tylenol every 3 hours. It's actually doing better than the oxy. Had another rider in this area hit a deer that afternoon. He hit it head on and didn't go down. His deer died too. Mine hit my front wheel running in from the left. Only the second deer I've ever hit. The other was in my Nissan pickup.

I am Larry's Brother John,I don't think he will go bikeless, maybe limited. I had to go bikeless after I hurt my shoulder in 2013, it was not fun, I really miss riding. Larry is improving a lot, he is not prettier, just better, less road rash...

Thanks for the update, John. Hope he keeps healing. I guess the shoulder injury explains where the efi you were working on went? Getting old ain’t for sissies.

aw, man, I hate to hear about it when a guy goes down on his bike. Been there twice myself. just glad to hear you're at least still above ground and mending.
and glad to hear you're off the oxy. it's never been very effective for me, but I know it really gets to some folk.
take your time.

Well, things are improving. All the road rash is pretty well healed up. I still have ribs that don't like me moving around. I had 3 that were completely broken. 1 had a 7 mm piece hanging at 90 degrees from the rib. That's the one that lacerated the spleen. Fortunately the spleen healed and didn't have to be removed. I saw the Dr again Thursday, and she said probably won't be back to normal for another 2 to 3 months. Fortunately, I have now quit taking pain pills completely. It will be nice when I can comfortably lay in bed again. So far, I can last about 30 minutes in bed. Pretty much living in my recliner. I take short walks each day, and that's getting easier. I can also do some light lifting without too much pain. The worst is walking and just standing. The 2 worst ribs don't like it at all.
