I've put 3600 kms. on my Shinko 230 Tour Master tires. I'm very pleased with their performance.
However I can't, for the life of me, locate the wear bars. There's a locating arrow on the sidewall, but after a close inspection, I don't see the bars.
Any chance that anyone else has encountered the same? I believe that some tire manufacturers don't apply a wear bar to their tires. But I'm sure their numbers are minimal.
Or maybe I'm just going blind! There's always that!
Thanks......... ...Dave

Are the holes in the center of the tire as deep as the grooves? Those may be the wear indicators.

Re: Shinko Wear Bars????
I think you might be right regarding the depth of the holes next to the centre line. On the rear tire, there's a 2/32" difference in their depths, the hole of course being shallower of the two. I don't really think I'd want to let the tire get quite that worn. But it should definitely be a wakeup call for anyone at that point, I would hope.5speed wrote:Are the holes in the center of the tire as deep as the grooves? Those may be the wear indicators.
The front tire shows no difference between the indents adjacent to the centre line, and the centre line itself.
And I still don't see a visible standard wear bar on the front, or on rear tires at all. Maybe I am blind!
Another question I have regarding both tires is; If there are no wear bars, then what's the point of the locator arrows on the sidewall?
I sent a request for clarification to Shinko. I'll let you know what they say, if they get back to me.

Re: Shinko Wear Bars????
Wear bars have nothing to do with the directional arrows.

I'm not talking about the directional arrows regarding tire rotation. I'm talking about the arrows on the sidewall that are supposedly pointing to the wear bar location.robin1731 wrote:Wear bars have nothing to do with the directional arrows.

Re: Shinko Wear Bars????
The Tread Wear Indicators ("wear bars") on most tires are indicated by little arrows, sometimes actually labelled "TWI". The indicators are pretty shallow (1.5mm) and some have tapered ends so that they are next to impossible to see with the naked eye until the tire reaches its wear limit. And some aren't on the centreline.
If you can't see them you could try measuring the tread depth at or near where the arrows point and again between the arrows and see if there is a difference.
